Matthew Marren - Diesel Tumbleweeds and Other Tales
Matthew is a singer/songwriter with more than 30 years of writing, recording, and live performance experience. “Diesel Tumbleweeds” is a 17-track album, which features Matthew’s more recent compositions, as well as some recorded material from the past 10 years. He has written the lyrics and music for all songs, and performed mostly all parts on all tracks except where noted in the CD jacket notes.
Simple Summer Song (track 1): An upbeat and nostalgic pop/rock examination of summer’s beginning. All it once, and still brings. “Noon sun causes little shadow on the 21stof June, forest trees in the gentle breeze, bring an unexpected tune”
My Train Song (track 2): A folk/rock element and vibe in the “City Of New Orleans” and “Canadian Railroad Trilogy” vein. “You can hear the wailing whistle, when the wind becomes easterly. And when you’re a diesel tumbleweed forever there’s a place to be”
In The Dead Of Winter (track 3):The most well-received and played track on “Diesel Tumbleweeds” to date, firmly in the adult contemporary genre. An introspective piece comparing the changing seasons to the cycle of life. “In the precious time of daylight hours, diamonds glisten in the snow To disappear and feed the mountain stream, exactly when we just don’t know”
World Keeps Turning (track 4):An acoustic guitar and bass/rhythymdriven pop/rock number about one of few constants in our existence. “Looking at the clouds with silver linings, while the sun and moon and stars keep shining”
Sunflower Lady (track 5):12 string guitar tracks and a sweeping Mellotron-like keyboard pad act as a counterpoint to the brisk contemporary beat. “Bending not breaking-in the wind to and fro, in this valley of much creation, your beauty I didn’t know”
Paint A Picture (track 7):A pop/rock beat and melody, plus an anthemiclyric that meshes Matthew’s loves for making music and painting. “We-like Monet’s Rouen cathedrals, change coloras the morning, returns to afternoon and then, turns to night…”
Smiling Sun (track 11): An uplifting, warming pop/acoustic rock number with strong reggae influence in the electric guitar solo. “December was cold like a winter often was, the days way too short and the nights long just because” www.matthewmarren.com
