Mic (Pronounced “Mike”) Raygun - Pinch
Since 2009 Mic (pronounced like “Mike”) Raygun has painstakingly developed his sound and feel, culminating in his newest EP Pinch. A concept album that deals with the process of going through a mental breakdown and reconstructing oneself, Pinch took ten months of writing, arranging and recording to accurately depict the feelings and emotions involved. Mic’s new sound mixes dance beats with piercing synths and funky guitars. The resulting tone of ‘Pinch’ is harsh yet pleasing. Influences include Nine Inch Nails, The Chemical Brothers and Grizzly Bear. Critics say they hear influences from The Gorillaz, Jeff Buckley and The Smashing Pumpkins. Mic Raygun is a Boston based solo project formed in 2009. Mic has released three EPs – Count, Psychoacoustic and now Pinch – and three music videos. Currently “Believe” off Psychoacoustic has over 10,000 views on Youtube. Several clips of live performances are also available. A new video is in production for the track “How Do I Get There?” off Pinch. A Boston area native, Mic is a fixture of the Boston underground music scene and has played Church and the Middle East. He received a degree in Sound Recording Technology and MusicPerformance from Umass Lowell. “One does not often have occasion to wonder what baroque dance rock would sound like. If one did have occasion to ask the question, you are now ready with the answer: it would probably sound something like “Identity Crisis.” This track launches itself into a bit of a time crisis mixed with ice-cold synths, a high-register transistor organ sound and the razor sharp tones of what sounds like an electric harpsichord.” -C.D.
