Freak out with Freekbass at a club near you! “Like his pioneering forefathers (such as his mentor/exec producer Bootsy Collins), Sherman has taken the basics of Funk and turned them inside out…Junkyard Waltz is an “alive” record, exploding with a wide palette of colors, tones and textures. – Mike Breen, City Beat Have you heard the FREEKBASS?! Well perk up those ears and get ready for the spokesman for the next generation of Funk. Cincinnati’s FREEKBASS has earned the type of endorsement that most bassists would give up a limb for. As the protégé to legendary bassist, BOOTSY COLLINS (Parliament Funkadelic, James Brown), Freek has been able to tap into the same virtuosic bass flare as the true masters of the genre – and the wild stage costumes too. From masks to feather boas, Freekbass always matches the mastery of his playing with the mystique of his live show. But let’s be clear here. FREEKBASS, is the name of the player and the band. The group Freekbass is comprised of the aforementioned bassist along with guitarist T-Sly and drummer Chip Wilson. T-Sly plays super chunky rhythm and facemelting solos while Wilson locks in perfectly with Freek to create infectiously danceable grooves. And on turntables is DJ Tobotius. Tobotius co-produced the new album Junkyard Waltz, and when not on tour with Freekbass, is a member of the Bootsy, Buckethead, Brain (from Primus) super- group, Science-Faxtion. FREEKBASS regularly plays alongside great performers like Buckethead, George Clinton, P-Funk, Mike Gordon (Phish) and more. You’ll get a sense of the live show from his Grooveyard album. But don’t fret – there’s more FREEKBASS. The new album Junkyard Waltz (which was executive produced by Bootzilla himself!) is also available in stores now. This is one concert not to be missed! There will be deep and funky grooves, an amazing stage show and some other “freeky” stuff that you just have to see for yourself. |
